Do Mice Make a Chirping Sound

Do Mice Make a Chirping Sound?

Mice are known for their quiet little squeaks. But did you know that they can make a wide range of sounds? Mice are social animals that live in groups and communicate with each other through vocalizations. They sing and speak to each other at frequencies that are too high for us to hear. Cats and dogs can hear them, but we hear only small squeaks and chirps. If you think there may be mice in your home, give Mouse Control a call. We provide inspections and effective solutions to all rodent problems.

Mice make a variety of sounds, but we can’t hear most of them. They make ultrasonic vocalizations to communicate with each other about food, shelter, and even their emotional state. What we hear sounds like squeaking and high-pitched chirping and chattering. Though it isn’t vocal, mice also tend to make a scratching noise. They like to nest in wall voids, where they chew on wooden beams and drywall, creating a repetitive scratching noise during the night. If you’ve noticed any kind of scuffling, squeaking, or scratching sounds in your walls, you likely have mice in the house.

How to Get Rid of Mice

It’s important that you get rid of mice quickly because they are a health hazard. Mouse leave feces everywhere and they risk poisoning your food with salmonella. Start by deep cleaning the house, then storing all your food in airtight containers. Get in the habit of doing the dishes and taking out the garbage every night. This will restrict the animals’ access the food. The cleaner the home, the better. Move things off the floor and reduce clutter. Then, purchase some traps from the hardware store. You can choose between snap traps, electronic traps, and live traps.

The key to a successful mouse extermination is to set several traps. Bait your traps with a pea-sized amount of peanut butter, jerky, or gummy candy, and set them along the walls of infested rooms. Set traps anywhere there is mouse activity and check them every day. Don’t give up! If you have caught a mouse in a snap trap, spray it with disinfectant first, then throw the pest out in a sealed plastic bag. Disinfect the trap, then bait it again and reset it. Continue this process until the mice are gone. For permanent results, be sure to seal every possible entry point, like gaps under the doors and holes in the wall.
